Acupuncture for Promoting Labour

Promoting labor, also known as labor induction, is a process initiated to stimulate the onset of childbirth. This is typically considered when a pregnancy goes beyond the due date, or there are health concerns for the mother or baby that make continuing the pregnancy risky. The goal is to safely prompt the start of labor to ensure both the mother's and baby's well-being.  The decision to promote labor is made based on the mother's and baby's health status and the progress of the pregnancy.

How Does Acupuncture Aid in Promoting Labour?

Acupuncture assists in Iabour induction by:

  • Softening the cervix for dilation.
  • Encouraging efficient and smooth contractions.
  • Boosting stamina and endurance.
  • Soothing both mind and spirit.
When to Start Acupuncture for Labour Induction:
Starting from week 34 through to birth, we advise 1-6 acupuncture sessions weekly to aid in labor induction. The focus is on preparing both body and mind for a smooth labor process. While acupuncture is not a quick fix, the cumulative effect of regular treatments is crucial for optimal results. The sessions aim to soften the cervix and ensure the baby is correctly positioned for birth. It's never too late to start these sessions, even past the due date.
